👋 Stop doing that?

Published On: September 8th, 2023

We all do things too many experts tell us not to do. Some advice makes sense. Some advice is stupid. Like, downing a Pumpkin Spice latte, canceling subscriptions, watching your investments too closely, not watching your investments enough, paying with cash is best but mobile payments are cool too, and finally – don’t listen to Finfluencers!

Today is all about what to do and what not to do. I’ll let you decide what’s what.

Let’s do this!

Today’s newsletter is 347 words, 1:45 minutes.

10 Money things worth reading this week

1. Stop doing that? Investor Behaviour is the market inefficiency NO ONE is looking at – A talk by Tom Bradley (YouTube)

2. “Stop this latte bull$hit”. Ron Butler, “the big old overly opinionated mortgage broker guy”, is hilarious with some VERY choice words on crazy housing prices and the “stupid stupid stupid” people who hate on Pumpkin Spice lattes and ignore stagnant wages. Earphones on ’cause he swears a lot. (TikTok)

3. Don’t invest like this. Warn your friends to beware of “finfluencers”. Study shows they’re “‘unskilled”, often wrong, encourage excessive trading, and create overly optimistic beliefs amongst their large followings.

4. Get canceled. We often forget to cancel our monthly subscriptions and the costs add up

5. Pick ONE small change and start there. How to build a morning routine that works for you

6. On the move. Mobile payments are growing in popularity. Here’s how to keep your digital wallet safe

7. Good to know. What you need to know before investing in All-In-One ETFs (smart stuff from Michael James)

8. A win for basic income. A Canadian study gave $7,500 to homeless people and found there’s a stark contrast between public perception and the reality of how homeless people spend money. Participants found housing faster, boosted food security, and reduced spending on substances.

9. Leap tall buildings. A few financial superpowers to help with your money

10. Yawn. Be boring.

If you’ve got a money question go ahead and send it my way! I wanna know what you guys want to know. As always,

Love love love,
Kerry
