I look for discounted gift cards on Craigst List, eBay, and gift card selling/trading sites like cardpool.com, giftcardrescure.ecom, lots more sites. I saved $70 on a $432 Home Depot purchase but be sure it is an actual gift card - not a store credit - otherwise it can only be redeemed at that particular store. Luckily for me it was from my local Home Depot.

I highly highly recommend ebates.com!!!! All you have to do is go to their site, and they have nearly ALL RETAILERS!!! You can actually earn a percentage of your purchase price back by going through their site FIRST. They send you a quarterly check. There is even a travel site that is on there. It really adds up. I NEVER shop online without going there first. GREAT SITE! Check it out!

First thing I do before using any coupon is comparing the prices of same product in comparison search engines. This will definitely give me an idea of what the price difference is.

Hi, Kerry. You've pretty much covered all the essential points. I also do my shopping online at www.savingswatch.com, where I benefit from coupon discounts, price comparisons and free shipping. I just want to add that choosing sites with cash back rewards can save you even more. And sometimes you get sweet freebies in those deals. Finally, don't forget about the time you can save when you're looking for deals. Most stores have clearance and end-of-season sales that, added to your coupon codes, can enormously cut your expenses in half--and sometimes more.

Great read, Kerry, especially the info in #3 about online communities. I don't have a ton of time to devote to bargain shopping but rely on the community on our site when I set out to find a deal on a product I'm looking for. I find I have to be careful with email and twitter alerts. It's really easy to be tempted by a deal on a product that I'm not necessarily in the market for.

Don't forget about shopping through an online shopping portal (like Ebates, MyPoints, Cashbaq, etc.) when making those purchases online. You can earn a percentage back in cash or earn points to apply towards gift cards and other rewards.

You don't need a new twitter account just to follow retailers, you can use your preferred feed reader:

Go to the Twitter page of the retailer you want to track, and look for the link to the RSS feed at the bottom and subscribe to the feed. (I got this trick from Lifehacker, didn't look up the original post.)

You can then use your feed reader to sort, filter, label or otherwise deal with the twitter streams.
