Hi. I used my crock once many years ago....and....well, it didn't turn out so great. I love your blog and saw your recipe for crockpot roast, and decided to try it again. I purchased a lovely roast and am going to cook it for my family tomorrow. I love the thought of making wholesome meals for my family. Not to mention the time saving and the money too. Wish me luck!

@Rachael, I love making pot roast whenever I get the chance because it's so easy for me. Here's a tip for you if you want the meat to be really tender. I use a can of beer in the crock pot. The beer tenderizes the meat and makes it so smooth like butter LOL. Any light beer will do but I traditionally use Grolsch.

I have one of those slow cookers with a timer setting. I've used it for years, and have often wished I had the one without the timer, because the food always cooks more than it used to in the plain type. Anyway, I had never made a pot roast and decided to give one a try, unfortunatley most of it was quite dry. Being a frugal person myself I froze it until I was able to come up with something else to do with it. I like morphing my leftovers into other meals, so this gave me an opportunity to improve the dry roast. I decided to make a gravy and cook it in a pie crust. We had eaten all the delicious veggies the first night so I steamed some chopped carrots, green beans, cubed potatoes, etc.. and mixed it in with the meat (cubed), put it in a pie crust with a light gravy and voila: delicious family-size pot pie! I had enough meat still in the freezer to make another one as well! My boyfriend loved it.

I love the picture of Tivo sitting patiently and hopefully. It's very a familiar look. My kitten loves to perch on the barstools and watch excitedly as I cook. I love her expressions, especially as she sniffs the scents of strong herbs or flavours. So cute!

I think your site has become my new favorite!

Thanks for the fresh take on crock pots. We primarily use ours as a bread box (it works very well!). But... I will have to try your tips and recipes.
