A short while ago I wrote 6 little words that unleashed a firestorm of activity on this blog. Within the span of 24 hours, the post 6 Words That Make Your Resume Suck got hit by the front pages of Digg, Delicious, and Lifehacker – in that order! I must admit to being stunnifed by the hundreds and thousands of visitors dropping in for a visit. If you found me via one of these massive sites, I’d love to humbly welcome you to Squawkfox and thank you for your social media votes and tags.
Be sure to check out the Free Downloads page for lots of frugal stuff. I’ll be finishing the How To Write a Resume Series shortly, so stay tuned! (I’ve been away busily writing a book based on this blog!)
I’ve heard of sites getting “dugg” before, but I never imagined I’d witness the carnage first hand. I’d love to thank Neal Rodriguez for sending me a warning message when the story gained Digg traction.
To be honest though, no amount of warning could have prepared me for the imminent onslaught of traffic. Within 8 minutes of hitting Digg’s front page this site tanked big time. The fail was colossal – the Digg traffic not only killed Squawkfox but managed to take down all the sites hosted on the server as well. The weird thing is, despite being completely kaput, you “diggas” kept voting the story up! When I commented on Digg to apologize for the tanking, you Digg smarties went and created a mirror page. Nice. Kudos and welcome!
You social bookmarkers are delicious. I’ve been a delicious user for years, so when “6 words” got tagged to the top of delicious popular I felt very honored to be bookmark worthy. Welcome and thank you for tagging!
By the time Lifehacker featured “6 words” on their front page, I managed to get this site up using some serious blog viagra and duct tape. While many of you came to read the resume writing help, I figure some of you were enticed to visit based on the photo accompanying Lifehacker’s post. You’ve gotta admit, the girl pictured is really “creative”. Snicker. To all those who asked – No, I’m not the girl in the photo. But if linking my likeness to the photo helps you write a winning resume – then so be it! Welcome!
