Snow, Rain, and Slush Oh My!

Winter arrived. Winter melted. Then it rained. It seems the weather on the farm has been a little slushy and mushy as of late. The fields are now bare and cold. Images of golden hay blowing in the breeze are distant memories. I always feel a little saddened with the changing seasons. But that’s life.

The arrival of colder days and earlier sunsets also means more care for our horses and other animals. Animals need to be fed and kept warm and safe. The horses are always so happy to see me driving with the hay wagon. Being a former city girl, I still can’t believe I drive a tractor and feed hay. Like the seasons, life has a way of changing.

I love the last line – “Like the seasons, life has a way of changing.”. Life does have a way of changing… Life is what we make it. Life is full of opportunities! Life is awesome!!

On a side note, I grew up driving tractors and feeding hay to the cows. Now I live in the suburbs, and drive a car….it’s all good (I love where I’m at in life, and in the world)…but life in the country will always (always) have a place in my heart.

Thanks for the link, Fox! Enjoy your winter. I really dislike the in between slushy stuff.

Thanks a lot for the links.

You have a lot of frugal baby posts….something you want to tell us?? :)

Beautiful photo – but it doesn’t seem that long ago that you were posting a photo of that road with the pesky garden robbing deer on it :)

I sold my dairy farm about 7 years ago, and have to say, I don’t miss farming in the winter months at all :) But I definitely do in the spring and summer! But wait – that’s soon to change – my son bought a dairy farm and he remembers that Mamma knows how to drive tractor!! haha! My days will be again busy on a tractor come spring! But he HAS agreed to fence off room for a fruit orchard for his Mamma also! I told him my grandkids need fruit trees – so that’s going to happen – Hooray!!!

    Nice Post roundup! Thanks!

I often appreciate the winter chores. I need something to get me outside enjoying the weather. I’m lazy about getting out, but I always really enjoy it when I’m out there.

I’m also so lazy about my running in the summer, but some this slushy cold weather I love nothing more than lacing up my sneakers and heading out for a few miles.

Hey thanks for the link! Stay warm, if you can help it.

Whoa, Fox, your scenic photo almost makes winter look like something to wish for! But then, Emily@remodelingthislife has a point: anything’s got to be better than the in-between slushy stuff – yes? (But don’t bother reminding me of saying that when we get into January-February, and the thrill of living in a frickin Winter Wonderland is starting to wear really thin!) :-D

“Being a former city girl, I still can’t believe I drive a tractor and feed hay.” Wow. I don’t know if I could ever make that transition. Also wow on the weather. A tad different than what we have here in NorCal right now. :)

    Hurray, links:)

I’m not enjoying the cold just now. Snow is nice, skating is fun, frost is pretty. But the cold part, I could do without!

Beautiful post. It is nice to live vicariously through everyone who gets snow this time of year!

Hi – We’ve gone in opposite directions. I grew up on a farm and now live in the city. I miss farm life. I have memories of watching the horses getting excited about being fed.

It was especially fun during the really cold months when the horses spent more time in the stable than they’d like to. On a really sunny day, mom would let them out. I was fun to watch them charging around, kicking up their heels. Thanks for taking me back with this post.

    Thanks for the link.

I feel ya on the weather. 14 inches the other day, now turning into mush.
